RETURN OF EMPTY CONTAINERS

As we head into the peak season it is timely to start planning for the Christmas / New Year period
when many importers close down for holidays. Last year Port Botany was severally affected by
fire to an adjoining premise in the week prior to Christmas. As a result many containers were not
delivered prior to Christmas resulting in importers incurring large storage and container detention bills.
If you are planning to shut down during the Christmas / New Year period then you should ensure the
vessel carrying your cargo arrives in port no later than the 12th December. Remember that every other
importer in Australia will be trying to achieve the same arrival date so vessels due in early to
mid December will be overbooked. Please plan for unforseen delays such as fires to premises
that adjoin the terminals. A little planning now can reduce the likelihood of additional charges
being incurred during this time.
