IMPROPER PACKING AND SECURING OF CONTAINERISED CARGO

Police & the RMS are targeting importers who order containerised cargo that is not adequately secured by the supplier. Cargo can shift dangerously if not secured inside, when ships hit rough seas or trucks brake suddenly.

Please remind your suppliers that they must securely pack your cargo inside the container – and lash down machinery or pallets that can’t be tightly packed against other cargo. Some photos of improper packing have been provided by the RMS and can be seen here (Operation Steel)

The TT Club who are one of the major providers of marine insurance stated that “as many as two-thirds of accidents involving the loss of or damage to containerised cargo are likely to have been caused by improper packing and securing of cargo”. The full article can be found at this link
